New Weight Loss Program Centers on Person, Not the Scale

Dr. Rosano

“With a vision of weight management centered around the whole person, rather than a number on the scale, we want to partner with patients on their personal weight loss journey to a more enjoyable and healthier life,” said Nina Rosano, MD, endocrinologist. With an emphasis on personalized care and scientific evidence-based approaches, the Metabolic Weight Loss Program team creates a unique, meaningful and sustainable treatment plan for each patient. “Beyond prescribing medication, our team provides patients with valuable information and supports them with guidance and encouragement,” Dr. Rosano added. How can you help those in you community who are affected by heart disease? For those involved with the 306 Belmont Street team participating in the Central MA Heart Walk, it meant raising money with a luncheon featuring homemade Albanian, Greek and Italian dishes and desserts prepared by team members. “We just did what any good community would do,” said team captain, Bedrana Flamuraj, denial managements. The team, the Albanian Community Helping Heart, raised more than $1,500 from the luncheon and a basket raffle with all proceeds benefiting the Heart Walk, which takes place this Saturday, May 6. Visit the heart walk’s website to register or donate to a UMass Memorial Health Care team!

Flu Season Winds Down and Mask Precautions Have Ended!

This year’s flu season has been unpredictable; however, in the last week the confirmed flu rates have dropped to a safe level and, as a result, flu precautions with masks at the Medical Center ended last night at midnight. Your effort in fighting this battle against the flu this year is applauded. In fact, this year more than 85 percent of employees and employed physicians demonstrated an ongoing commitment to patient care and safety at the Medical Center by getting their flu shots. That’s how we fight the flu!

Lean Green Belts throughout the Medical Center spend a portion of their time giving back by coaching and teaching others about process improvement. Recently, Rajan Viswanathan, practice improvement facilitator, and Lori Covotta, practice manager, trained White Belt sessions at Northborough Crossing and Hahnemann Campus. We encourage all Green Belts and Black Belts to sign up to help train at a White Belt session. Yellow Belts planning to complete their Green Belt are also welcome.
