Cancer Care across Our System; Read New Annual Report!

Every day, the dedicated members of our cancer team provide our patients with exceptional care. The 2016 Annual Report of the Cancer Committee highlights the amazing work of our cancer care team and illustrates how cancer services are coordinated across our system to benefit patients and provide the most optimal care. Cancer services showcased in this year’s annual report include: immunotherapy, oral chemotherapy, financial counseling services, lung cancer screening and interdisciplinary collaborative for enhancement of patient care, changes at the Comprehensive Breast Center, TrueBeam technology and radiation oncology. Marketing and Communications Team Takes Home Four Awards

Members of the Marketing and Communications Department team

At the New England Society for Healthcare Communications annual conference, our Marketing and Communications Department brought home four Lamplighter Awards:

  • Everyone, Everyday, our internal communications campaign, won gold as we highlighted employees from across all departments and let all voices of our caregivers be heard.
  • Our social campaign #imaumassmemorialbaby earned gold, featuring our tiniest patients wearing their milestone stickers.
  • Receiving a gold award was our 855-UMASS-MD campaign, promoting one unique telephone number, resulting in more than 15,000 annual calls.
  • Our proactive media relations campaign to generate positive media beyond Central Massachusetts won a certificate of excellence. Visit our newsroom.

This year’s competition totaled at 352 entries from 51 New England community hospitals, health care facilities and marketing/advertising agencies.

Plan for Traffic Delays Around Memorial Campus

Employees should anticipate traffic delays around the Memorial Campus through June 20. Eversource Energy will install new gas lines on Oak Avenue from Belmont Street to Kendall Street. Traffic will be limited to one lane heading southbound. The flow of traffic will be from Kendall Street to Belmont Avenue. Traffic from Belmont Street will be detoured to Hooper Street down Kendall Street to Oak Avenue. All parking lots on Oak Avenue will be accessible with minimal disruptions and delays. Please note that handicap and street parking will not be available in front of 8 to 10 Oak Avenue during this roadwork project.

Tuesday Is Farmers Market Day on University Campus

Starting tomorrow, June 20, the annual farmers market returns to the University Campus. The market is open every Tuesday through October (except July 4), noon to 5 pm. See familiar vendors and artisans who will set up shop near the campus green by the Medical School lobby to sell their goods, including fruit, vegetables, honey, meat and bread.
