Dr. Forkey Discusses Team’s Role with Child Abuse Cases

Doctors with the Child Protection Program at the Children’s Medical Center said they have seen more cases of abuse over the past few months than they saw all of last year. Heather Forkey, MD, chief of the program, told the online news source MassLive.com that her team becomes engaged in these issues when there is not a good medical explanation for a child’s injury. “Our job is, really, to come in, meet with the family and talk to the child if he or she is verbal,” Dr. Forkey said.
