Cancer Walk to Support New Palliative Care Fellowship

Dr. Reidy

Proceeds from the 20th Anniversary UMass Cancer Walk and Run will support adult and pediatric cancer research and care, as well as clinical trials of new potentially lifesaving cancer therapies. In addition, $75,000 of this year’s proceeds will be used toward the development of a nationally accredited, interdisciplinary fellowship program in palliative care at our Medical School. “Funding from the cancer walk this year will be important seed money for us to begin planning the fellowship,” said Jennifer Reidy, MD, chief, palliative care. “We are very grateful.” Read the story and watch the video on UMassMedNow. Pay Tribute to Loved Ones at the 20th UMass Cancer Walk and Run

Very special tribute signs will line the course of the UMass Cancer Walk and Run, celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year on Sunday, September 30. The Tribute Signs – many in honor of or in memory of loved ones who have so bravely battled cancer – will be a powerful inspiration for all who participate. There will also be tribute signs thanking the members of our dedicated cancer team who provide our patients with exceptional care every day. The cost of each sign is $20, and all proceeds benefit the Cancer Center. You can order a Tribute Sign to show your support. You can also join a team, support a team or runner/walker, or volunteer to help out at the event. Learn more about how to get involved in this year’s Cancer Run and Walk.

Cancer Walk & Run to Celebrate Milestone Anniversary

The UMass Cancer Walk and Run will celebrate its 20th anniversary this fall when patients, family members, caregivers, business owners and others come together September 30 to support adult and pediatric cancer research at the Medical School and Medical Center. “When I first got to UMass, I heard a lot about the cancer walk and how important it is for the community and for supporting clinical trials going on here, so I’m very excited to participate,” said Jason Shohet, MD, PhD, chief of pediatric hematology and oncology at our Children’s Medical Center. The walk has raised more than $12 million to date, and this year’s goal is $750,000. Watch the video for a snapshot of the event. Learn more and register to participate. Read the UMass Med Now story.
