Donate a Gift to a Local Foster Child

Have you started your holiday shopping? Consider dropping an extra toy or two in your basket to donate to local foster children at our annual Department of Children and Families holiday party. We are especially in need of gifts for boys ages 10 to 12. See our gift list for ideas, and drop off your gifts in one of our donation boxes by December 21.

Special thanks to the University of Massachusetts and UMass Memorial Police departments for coordinating a very successful Stuff-a-Cruiser event, which brought in nearly 10 cruisers full of toys for the event!

DCF Holiday Party Donations and Volunteers Needed

DCF Holiday 2018This year’s annual holiday party for the Worcester-area Department of Children and Families foster families, sponsored by UMass Memorial Medical Center and the Department of Nursing, will be held on Sunday, December 30. This holiday party for children ages newborn to 12 features lunch, activities, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Each family will receive a gift bag including a toy for each child. Here’s how you can get involved:

On-site Donations: Employees are encouraged to contribute a $20 toy for a child. See the attached suggested gift list for ideas. Donations of wrapping paper, bows, tape, and new children’s hats, mittens, and gloves also are appreciated. Drop your unwrapped gifts off at one of the below donation box locations between November 26 and December 21:

Stuff-a-Cruiser: Members of our Campus Police Departments will hold a Stuff-a-Cruiser Toy Drive at Walmart in Northborough Saturday, December 1, 9 am to 5 pm.

Children’s Mittens, Gloves and Hats Needed!

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology needs your help with its Community Mitten Party being held at the Belmont School in Worcester on December 5. See flyer. What can you do? Donate new mittens, hats and gloves for children in grades K through 2. Thanks to your generous donations, more than 250 children received mittens and gloves last year. This year’s plan is to help even more. The mitten drive was established when staff members noticed that many young children visiting their new siblings were in need of these winter essentials. Please drop your donations off to Sue Aller and Christina Vanderburgh on the second floor of the Jaquith Building, Room JB2-027.

Support Our Troops Over the Holidays

Do you want to help make the holidays a little brighter for the men and women serving in the military? In November, staff from our Endoscopy Clinic on the University Campus welcome your donations to their troops’ holiday collection. Items needed include books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, nonperishable snacks and candies (no chocolate), telephone cards, toiletries, shirts and socks. Donations will be accepted at the clinic on University Campus, Level A, #HA-135, between November 1 and November 26. The items collected will be sent to the troops by Whitin Community Center. Cancer Walk Raised $560,000 to Aid in Finding a Cure

The 2017 UMass Cancer Walk & Run raised an astounding $560,000 that will support cancer research, clinical trials and patient care. Caregivers, survivors, family and friends came together to walk and run in memory and in honor of cancer patients. Gift Collection Continues for the DCF Holiday Party; Wrappers Needed

This year’s annual holiday party for the Worcester Area Department of Children and Families (DCF) Foster Families, sponsored by our Medical Center and the Department of Nursing, is right around the corner on December 30! There are a few volunteer slots remaining if you’d like to join us. Gift donations are still needed with a focus on toys for babies/toddlers and gift cards for older children. Gifts can be dropped off in the collection boxes located in the main lobby on the University Campus, or outside the cafeteria on the Memorial and Hahnemann campuses. If donating a gift card, please give directly to Gina Gardner or Lori Peasley. Gifts will be collected through Thursday, December 21. If your department or building is collecting gifts in your area, please contact Gina at 774-441-6329 or Lori at 508-334-1172 to coordinate pick-up. 

Wrappers Needed! Volunteers are needed to help wrap gifts Friday, December 22, 9 am to 2 pm, Knowles Hall, Memorial Campus. If you can help, contact Lori. Walk-in wrappers are also welcome!

Members of our campus police departments and the Children’s Medical Center stuffed nine cruisers full of gifts for foster children of the Worcester-area Department of Children and Families (DCF) at the Stuff-a-Cruiser event at Toys R Us in Auburn during Thanksgiving weekend. The gifts will be presented to children at the annual DCF Holiday Party, which is hosted by the Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Anyone interested in donating additional gifts can drop them off in the collection boxes located in the main lobbies on the University and Hahnemann campuses, or outside the cafeteria on the Memorial Campus. Gifts will be collected through Thursday, December 21.
