Do you make products to sell, including crafts, jewelry or clothing? Or, are you a consultant for a vendor such as Tupperware or Lia Sophia? Crafters and vendors are invited to participate in the Fourth Annual Craft/Vendor Fair at 306 Belmont Street Friday, November 30, 9 am to 3 pm. Space fee is $20; participants are asked to donate an item worth $20 for raffles. Download and complete the application due by Friday, November 9, and email it to Tom Callahan. Email or call 508-334-0263 with questions. Proceeds from the event from the space fees, raffle and bake sale will benefit the 2019 Central MA Heart Walk. Heart Walk Supporters Enjoy a Day at the Game

Congratulations to Carmen and Steven Paquette, winners of the Bleacher Madness event sponsored by our 306 Belmont Street Hungry & Helping Hearts Heart Walk team. The couple was treated to a limosine ride to a pre-party at the Baseball Tavern in Boston courtesy of Acre Bridge Transportation before heading to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox play the White Sox.

Kathy Green Earns Prestigious 2018 Heart Hero Award!

Kathy Green, RN, senior director of radiology services, was recently presented with the American Heart Association’s 2018 Heart Hero Award in recognition of her leadership and tireless fundraising efforts. Kathy served as the organization’s Central Massachusetts board chair from 2012 to 2016 and is a longtime, passionate volunteer. She is also part of the volunteer group that trained more than 10,000 people to perform hands-only CPR, and is involved in the automated external defibrillator placement initiative, community education and advocacy. Heart Walk: Earn Wellness Rewards; Buy Bracelet to Support

  • Earn myHealth Matters Points: You and your family are invited to join the 2018 Central MA Heart Walk Saturday, May 12. Registration begins in the Quinsigamond State Park at 8:30 am and the walk starts at 10 am. You can also register online. Benefits-eligible participants, register by May 31, earn 250 myHealth Matters points for the Heart Walk under the UMass Memorial Heart Walk challenge.
  • Bracelets for Sale to Benefit Heart Walk: For just five dollars, you can buy a bracelet handmade by members of the Heart and Sole team to benefit the Heart Walk. Chris Saucier, RN, came up with the idea to sell them in the Cardiovascular Clinic to raise money. The response was so huge that more staff started helping out. Bracelets will be sold at the Heart Walk for cash only. If you can’t attend the walk, but would still like a bracelet, contact glynn@umassmemorial.org.

Heart Walk Fundraiser: Raffle Tickets on Sale for Bleacher Madness

Enter for a chance to win two bleacher tickets to the Friday, June 8 Red Sox game against the Chicago White Sox, a preparty at the Baseball Tavern, and a limo ride to and from Fenway Park – and support the Heart Walk at the same time! Donna Sides, Heart Walk team captain at 306 Belmont Street, is selling Bleacher Madness raffle tickets now through June 1: one ticket for $10; six tickets for $50; and 12 tickets for $100. You can buy tickets at University and Memorial campus cafeterias from 11 am to 2 pm on April 25, May 9 and May 23. You can also purchase your tickets by calling 508-334-0453 or through Donna’s Heart Walk page. All proceeds benefit the UMass Memorial Heart Walk team. The winner will be announced Friday, June 1 at 3 pm.

Learn Hands-Only CPR at the Central MA Heart Walk

CPR saves lives. Learn how to save a life at this year’s Heart Walk at Quinsigamond State Park on May 12. Dedicated instructors are hoping to train or retrain more than 1,000 people right before this year’s walk. According to Jay Cyr, RN, MSN, MBA, senior vice president, surgical services, “Through a series of hands-only CPR events throughout our communities, including the Heart Walk, we hope to teach close to 10,000 people this easy-to-learn lifesaving skill.” Now is your chance to learn. Register to walk with a UMass Memorial Health Care team. Receive your free UMass Memorial Health Care t-shirt if you sign up by Friday, April 20.

Looking for another reason to participate in the 2018 Heart Walk? Jay Cyr, RN, MSN, MBA, senior vice president, surgical services, explains its importance. “Our participation in the 35th Annual Central MA Heart Walk helps the American Heart Association reach its research and community education goals,” he said. “Walking on May 12th at Lake Quinsigamond provides participants with an opportunity to enjoy a healthy event while helping to raise funds and awareness to end heart disease.” To take part and raise money for a great cause, visit the heart walk’s website to register or form a team, or donate to a UMass Memorial Health Care team! Choose Menu Item of the Day to Support Our Heart Walk Team

The 35th Annual Central MA Heart Walk will take place on May 12 at DCR’s Quinsigamond State Park, and there are many opportunities throughout the month of April to support our Heart Walk Team. Every Friday, purchase the featured menu item of the day in any Medical Center, Medical School or HealthAlliance cafeteria and one dollar will be donated to our Heart Walk Team. In addition, you can donate a dollar at cafeteria registers during all three meals each Friday. Go the extra mile and register to be a part of our Heart Walk Team.

Now that spring is almost here, it’s time to start thinking about the Central Massachusetts Heart Walk coming up Saturday, May 12 at Quinsigamond State Park, Lake Park, Worcester. Come and enjoy views of the lake during this 2.5- or 5-mile walk to help fight heart disease and stroke. Visit the Heart Walk website, and register with Team UMass Memorial. Then create your own personal webpage on which you can share your story, upload pictures and videos, track your progress, and send emails to friends and family!
