UMass Memorial Health Care caregivers know that working in health care comes with its fair share of stress. To manage stress, UMass Memorial has partnered with the Center for Mindfulness to educate our staff on what mindfulness is, as well as to promote the center’s stress reduction courses available in person or online. Many of these programs qualify for reimbursement by your health insurance or by your wellness reimbursement or flexible spending account if your primary care provider authorizes them. Benefits-eligible employees: Earn 1,000 points on the myHealth Matters website when you complete a “Stress Management Training” course.

Tim Tarnowski Shares Experience with Mindfulness at Schwartz Rounds

Find out from Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Tim Tarnowski, who will join a panel of four caregiver panelists at the next Schwartz Rounds titled “Mind(fulness) over Matter: Does Mindfulness Matter for Compassionate Care?” Since completing the eight-week Mindful-based Stress Reduction Program at the Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness last year, Tim, who has clocked in more than 670 total hours of daily mindful practice for more than 500 days said: “I added my mindfulness to supplement my daily prayers. Be a Mindfulness Champion; Join Free Training Session Thursday Night!

Mindfulness champions are individuals trained on how to facilitate meditation practice sessions at the nationally recognized UMass Center for Mindfulness. Attend the champions training session Thursday, July 14, 6 pm, Center for Mindfulness, Shrewsbury, MA. Mindfulness practice sessions occur every Monday to Thursday at various UMass Memorial locations. To expand these opportunities, more mindfulness champions like you are needed.
